If there is one place in the world that Mother Nature has blessed, that place is Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! The landscape around Puerto Vallarta is diverse, boasting mountains, jungle, beaches, rivers and waterfalls, and the delightful kaleidoscope of natural flora and fauna is endless.

Because the Bay of Banderas is surrounded by 3 different types of mountain ranges (including the famous Sierra Madre), we are blessed with a wide variety of vegetation ranging from the sub-tropical jungles on the east and south sides to the low deciduous type vegetation found in the north.

Thanks to its privileged geographical location, the Canopy Los Veranos ecological preserve offers refuge to a surprising variety of plant and animal species. Situated 1600 meters above sea level, the jungle is classified as Tropical Deciduous, which means that 70% of the plants and trees lose their leaves during the dry season.

But during the rainy season, which starts in June and ends in October, about 70 inches of rain falls - bringing the jungle to life! And at the Los Veranos ecological preserve you'll have the chance to come into contact with the rich variety of fauna and flora that flourish here.

Los Veranos is surrounded by Capomo trees, which are the biggest tree in the Banderas Bay area. Seeds from Capomo trees are processed like coffee beans - dried, peeled, grained and then toasted to produce coffee. Another interesting thing about these seeds is that they produce decaffeinated coffee. This coffee is sold locally for about $150 pesos per kilo.

Among the Capomo trees, our guides will point out vanilla vines and agave plants, which are used to make tequila. The jungle is also alive with 200 different kinds of Bromelias and Orchids. The Orchid family is the largest in the flora kingdom, with about 25,000 to 35,000 species that grow around the world... even in Alaska!

The seeds of these exotic plants, called Eiphytes, fly through the air and land on trees, which is where the Orchids grow. Another interesting fact is that Bromelias have water inside their leaves and have a variety of animals, mosquitos, frogs and worms living inside them. In fact, it has been proven that you can find at least 250 animals in just one leaf!

At Los Veranos, our canopy tours are designed to give adventurous explorers the opportunity to discover the flora and fauna found in Puerto Vallarta in a whole new way. As you are flying from tree-to-tree, you'll also see Philodendrons, Strangler Figs, rubber trees, palms and bamboo, as well as tree-bound termite nests and a large numbers of iguanas, tropical birds and parakeets.

While vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, be sure to visit Canopy Tours de los Veranos. Our ecotours will not only give you a fuller appreciation of the biodiversity in this beautiful place, but will also give you a fascinating view of paradise.
